Inside The Square - Yoga On The Go With Anna Bateman
You could say that our recent #SQries Wellness Day event has energized our team for the upcoming craziness of fashion month.
Even so, we recently discovered that our very own Anna Bateman is already ahead of the game when it comes to championing wellness while on the go! You may remember our chat with Anna from earlier this year where she walked us through her day-to-day tasks as our Business Development Manager. After witnessing Anna's impressive yoga skills at last week's event we wanted to catch up with her and learn more about what role yoga has played in her professional life. Hi! My name is Anna and I recently found out that I am one of two Brand Assembly employees who can do a headstand, shout-out to Adam!
How has practicing yoga helped to cultivate a sense of calm and increase productivity in your work?
I tend to be a bit high strung, so I have found that yoga helps me channel that energy into more productive thoughts and actions throughout the day. I can think clearer and I don’t carry around that nervous energy.
What lessons do you think fashion needs from the wellness industry?
Like all fast paced industries, we tend to put ourselves last on our to-do list. I think everyone (including myself) can benefit from carving out more personal time and not feeling guilty about it! Yoga allows me to be more present and mindful of my work so I continue to search for the “perfect” balance.
Was there anything that was said during last week's Yoga For Bad People class that resonated with you?
I loved the idea of taking a few minutes every day at work to stretch. Even if it’s just a quick twist to the right and then left while sitting in your chair to get your blood flowing! Katelin also suggested taking an inversion at least once a day, so during market, I’ll be the one upside-down in a handstand against the wall. You can find me there.
Do you have any advice for your co-workers or industry insiders who are looking to incorporate more yoga in their schedule?
Prioritizing yourself (as difficult as it is during fashion month) and making time to work out will strengthen your productivity and allow you to focus more!
